In the last few years, Jay-Z has spent his time as a husband, father, streaming music mogul, festival curator, documentary producer, Songwriters Hall of Famer and general icon. For his first album in nearly four years, he may remind everyone that he’s also one of the greatest rappers of all time. It’s hard to guess what it will sound like considering the breadth of music in his nearly 30-year career, but the entire thing will be produced by No I.D., marking the first time the rapper released an album backed by a single producer.

It’s been nearly four years since Eminem’s last blockbuster album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. He’s kept busy since, overseeing the Shady XV compilation and the soundtrack to the film Southpaw. But there’s been little news from the Shady camp as he’s quietly gone into album mode this year, only releasing a characteristically verbose verse on Big Sean’s “No Favors.” Producer FredWreck and singer Jenn Em posted studio footage as they worked on a song believed to be for Em’s new album. And longtime producer and D12 groupmate Mr. Porter hinted on Instagram in May that it’s “almost time” for Eminem to drop new music.

Nicki Minaj is coming up on three years since she released her third and most recent full-length album, The Pinkprint, but it hardly feels like she has taken a break given the many tracks released in the interim. After two years of her adapting her style to songs by artists like Madonna, Ariana Grande and DNCE, she finally released her first solo singles since her last LP, partially responding to a feud with fellow rapper Remy Ma but also teaming up with her friends Drake and Lil Wayne for both ferocious (“No Frauds”) and vulnerable (“Regret in Your Tears”) tracks. She’s remained mostly silent on her fourth album, not offering more than just confirmation that she has been in the studio. “I know it’s going to be my best body of work,” she told DJ Whoo Kid. “That’s next on my bucket list: to deliver my fourth album and make sure it’s a classic hip-hop album that people will never forget.”
Album: The Life of Desiigner
Release Date: TBA
Desiigner has cut an unpredictable path since rocketing to fame behind “Panda,” an out-of-nowhere Number One hit in 2016. He managed to transform an XXL freestyle into a wildly strange Top 40 hit (“Tiimmy Turner”), but hasn’t seen much radio play on recent releases like “Outlet” and “Up.” In a moment of frustration, the young Brooklyn rapper tweeted “Fuck NY radio” in April, earning the ire of powerful New York City DJs like Funkmaster Flex. With his major label debut on the way, Desiigner then visited local radio stations Hot 97 and Power 105.1 to apologize. In his interview with The Breakfast Club, the rapper sought to put the focus back on the exciting eclecticism of his upcoming LP. “I got all type of swag,” Desiigner explained. “Y’all gonna see something real different – after this album, I’mma have everybody lookin’ at me real different. … My music is great. No matter what. If you didn’t know, y’all gonna see.
Coming to Africa. We have Musical taliban, Oriste Femi who added to the good news of his forthcoming marriage, with the announcement of a soon-to-be-released album and the unveiling of a fitting artwork for the album.
